It is with great sadness that I must announce the passing of one of our most enthusiastic ACT2 Board Members.  Rosendo Garcia, our current Treasurer and past Newsletter Editor, ended a recurring battle with cancer on July 23rd.

His Rosary will be Monday evening (28th) and the funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday (29th) at St. Elizabeth's Church in Pflugerville.  His body is at the Cook Walden Funeral home in Pflugerville.

Rosendo began his teaching career in the valley, but soon moved back to Austin where he found a new home at Connally High School in Pflugerville.  When Rosendo discovered ACT2, he found a whole group of people who were as enthusiastic about teaching chemistry as he was, and he proceeded to jump in with both feet.  Whether it was hawking free or almost-free materials or providing stuffed moles for adoption at the CAST booth, seeking out new sponsors for the organization, or snapping photos, Rosendo was always happy to help. In 2007 he received the Mole of the Year Award from the National Mole Day Foundation for his promotion of Mole Day in his classroom.  As you can see in the photo above, his favorite mole, George, loved to be shown new and exciting places.  Also, you can discern Rosendo's alma mater - that's right, he was a HUGE UT fan.  We will miss his energy and love of teaching.

Because he was usually the one taking pictures, here's a rare look at Rosendo as he monitored the Mole Fun Run at ChemEd 07.
